Legal requirements for both employers and employees to reduce the risk to health and safety from manual handling operations. These include transporting or carrying a load which involves pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, lifting and lowering. Employers are required to carry out risk assessments with regard to risk of injury from lifting. Policies and procedures are set out to ensure that employees know what to do when they are lifting and what steps to take to ensure they are safe from risk. They should check that the equipment they are using is safe and make sure that they report any hazardous handling activities.
