Sector Skills Councils
(SSCs) Provide opportunities for employers to target skills gaps and shortages in order to improve opportunities in the work force. They also seek to develop learning through apprenticeships, higher education and national occupational standards. Within the health and social care sector, the Sector Skills Councils have developed the skills for health. They are designed to:
• Deliver more skilled health and social care workers who will improve health and care practice
• Influence the training and development of workers and therefore enhance their skills
• Identify where there are shortages of skills.
